Google Checkout not available for India

Shopping for something on the internet today I noticed Google Checkout and decided to give it a try (you know how anything from Google gets a geek’s adrenalin rushing), but to my utter disbelief and amazement I noticed that Google does not have India in the listed countries (check here), it has service for countries like Lao People’s Democratic Republic and our good old neighbors Bangladesh and Sri Lanka but not India!!!! and surprisingly they do not even offer this service for China, Brazil and Russia.. well guys give me a break!!!!!! if I believe all the world’s economist then BRIC are supposed to be the fast movers and dropping 4 of these countries from a e-commerce product could be a suicide. I think guys @ Google are not reading the newspapers or their subscription has expired.

I am sure Google has some good reasons (probably legal) for not introducing it for a country like India or China, but I am sure interested in knowing the reason. I was definitely not pleased to see that and would like to here from others about their thoughts.

It would have been real useful if it was in india. Coz people from other countries (Esp NRIs) can buy gifts/household items for their indian friends/family and get it delivered in india easily. They dont have to give their adress to anyone. The indian company like rediff, indiatimes, sify dont even know this order is from outside the country. They dont have to…or is there any law against it?? Dont know

    Hello,
Can you guys do a review of all the product aggregator sites/price comparison shopping websites in India? I think a research article looking at the trends in this segment will make for very interesting reading. Is it possible to determine how much traffic these sites are getting? I would like to know if Online Shopping in India is catching on. Some of the sites I found are www.tolmol.com, www.bechna.com, www.singdeals.com. I am sure there are others but I just havent found them.

    Regards,
    R

    Dear Friends

Google Checkout For Sellers Is Expected To Hit India By The End Of December. This Is The Latest Update That We Have From Google. Moreover Its Incredibly Cheap As Compared To Any Other Indian Payment Gateway. They Have Their Own Offices In India And Indian Bank Accounts So You Wouldn’t Have To Just Wait 20 - 25 Days For The Check To Arrive As Is The Case With Paypal. And Please Don’t Go With The Intermediaries As Posted By Sum1.

The Launch Also Might Get Delayed In Meeting Some Of The RBI Regulations.

    Cheers.

    Hello Vishwa,

ccavenue.com Is kind of expensive. I hope Google start his service soon in India.

Since PayPal now credit funds directly to Indian Bank accounts, its a cheaper option compared to other payment gateways liek CCAvenue, ebs, abc, transecute, payseal, hdfc, easypay etc. But one problem is that they don’t accept INR and we will have to convert the prices into USD . I am not sure there is someway we could offer prices in Indian Rupee and still use PayPal.

Most of the Indian gateways don’t support mastercard. The only one supports it, Axis-EBS, require a Axis current account etc.

Which countries does Google Checkout support?

Google Checkout is available to U.S. and U.K. merchants. U.S. Google Checkout merchants must have a U.S. bank account and address, plus either of the following:

A Social Security number (optional) and a valid credit card.
A Federal Tax ID/Employer Identification Number (EIN).

U.S. and U.K. buyers and buyers from many other countries outside the United States and United Kingdom can also sign up for the service and make purchases (in U.S. dollars or Pounds Sterling) through Google Checkout. Check the Location: drop-down menu on the sign-up page to see if Google Checkout is available in your buyer’s location.

We’re working towards making Google Checkout more widely available in the near future. At this time, however, we cannot provide any details regarding when Google Checkout will be available in specific countries.
